Physiotherapy for people living with dementia at home
Assess physical movement at the person’s pace, then agree suitable activity and a practical plan around their familiar routine, communication and support needs.
Appointments depend on your address, travel and our diary.
Coverage details
Area pages help you plan a visit; they do not guarantee coverage for every address. We check your exact visit address, travel and clinician availability before showing appointment times.
Understand the person and their daily routine.
For someone living with dementia, changes in movement can affect familiar activities and confidence. Physiotherapy focuses on their physical needs while allowing time for communication and responses. We consider what is meaningful to the person, their usual routine and how an agreed plan can fit into the support they receive.
Who is dementia-related physiotherapy for?
- People living with dementia whose physical movement or mobility has changed.
- People needing support with walking, balance or everyday activities.
- Families or carers seeking a movement plan adapted to the person’s routine and communication needs.
What happens at your visit?
We learn about the person's usual abilities, interests and any recent changes before assessing movement at an appropriate pace. Familiar activities and surroundings can help guide the visit. We involve the person as much as possible and discuss consent or appropriate decision-making arrangements, alongside any agreed family, carer or care-team involvement.
How physiotherapy can help
- Assess physical difficulties affecting walking, balance and everyday movement.
- Adapt explanations and activities to the person's communication and support needs.
- Discuss suitable movement practice and appropriate support from familiar people.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about the person’s familiar routine, preferred time and communication needs.
- Have usual mobility aids and care guidance ready; discuss consent and whether a familiar person should be present.
Self-pay, insurance or a health cash plan?
Self-pay & health cash plans
Standard home visits are £120 for 60 minutes. Pay online when booking and receive a paid itemised invoice.
Using a health cash plan
You can use it to claim according to your cash-plan cover. Check home-visit eligibility, limits and requirements with your provider first.
Private medical insurance
You can book eligible home visits online. Your insurer must cover home treatment with the treating physiotherapist.
What to have ready
Have your membership or policy number and authorisation, care or claim reference ready. Clinic recognition alone does not establish home-visit cover; an excess or shortfall may apply.
Questions before arranging care
Can I arrange a visit for a relative?
You can contact us about their needs. We discuss their involvement, consent and any appropriate decision-making arrangements before the visit, alongside the support already in place. A diagnosis of dementia does not automatically mean a person cannot make a treatment decision.
Can a familiar person take part?
Where appropriate and agreed, a relative or carer can help us understand the person's routine and support communication. We still involve the person themselves and discuss the role of anyone attending.
Can physiotherapy prevent every fall?
No. Falls can have several causes. Assessment can help identify relevant movement difficulties and discuss appropriate support, but it cannot guarantee that a fall will not happen or replace wider medical and care assessment.

Clinic, solicitor or employer referrals
Clinic appointments are at our Newham clinic in Plaistow. A home-area guide is not another clinic location.
For professional home referrals, agree suitability, location, funding and reporting with the team first. A normal online booking does not establish an agency or employer agreement.
